BLOG NOW CLOSED:
PLEASE GO TO
My JustAskMarketing.co.uk blog has only been active for a few months now. However, it has received over 10,000+ views as well having its content being re-tweeted and quoted by senior figures across GMG Radio, Bauer Media, the BBC and the independent sector .. with this in mind, it's time for a change!
The current blog software is based around a Posterous set-up - renowned for its simplicity - however, while this is also a positive, it also creates limitations into the creativity and commercial opportunity of the blog. I also felt that 'Just Ask Marketing' pigeonholes the blog into a marketing resource - where in fact, the posts cover radio, online and social media topics too.
So now - please welcome to www.radioandmarketing.com. I have transferred the majority of the content over and hopefully all the links within the blogs will continue working. The blog is also being run by wordpress.com which hopefully will improve it's functionality.
I will redirect the justaskmarketing.co.uk domain over to radioandmarketing.com - but keep the justaskmarketing.posterous.com blog active for a few months now as a form of archive.
See you over at www.radioandmarketing.com

For those not residing within the capital city - you may have missed a fantastic article by Gideon Spanier this evening in the Evening Standard looking at the great efforts of Steve Parkinson and his team at Bauer, examining how Kiss 100 is remaining at the forefront of a young London - 25 years after it started as a pirate radio station in the city.
While it's great to see half a page dedicated to coverage of commercial radio - the article looks at why the station won't be celebrating it's 25th Birthday with a huge celebration, how its become the second most listened to station in London based on market share, how it remains the cutting edge of mainstream, how it recognises the value in engaging with audiences through "today's" technologies like BBM messenger and how advertisers can benefit for a more subtle interaction with young London through brand activation beyond the thirty second spot.
More importantly - the article "flys the flag" for radio's ability to communicate to niche audiences and deliver both strong revenues, deeper audience engagement and a turnover of nearly £10million.
This graph shows us a bit about mobile app usage at its current state. While it's important to remember that this graph is US based it's interesting to see the rise in an app-based culture and their mass appeal. They become useful tools to build (and continue) building brand recall and top of mind awareness.
From the research in my 'App-A-Day' series, it was clear that news/information as well as social networking integration was clear for radio station mobile apps. To support this, the graphs shows that News/Weather apps (52%) and Social Networking (47%) apps are the most popular type of apps, with music being in the higher usage band too (47%).
There's more interesting analytics in this graph too - take a look!

This week – I will be writing a short review on five different radio station mobile applications picked at random reviewing their user experience, user engagement, features and functions. On Friday, I will also provide some concluding thoughts on the process.
